Armored Cow Brewing Opening May 17th in University City

After announcing the brewery in January, Armored Cow Brewing now has an opening date! They plan to open up the doors Friday, May 17th at 4 p.m.

The brewery focuses on brewing certain beers with gluten-free grains. It’s located at 8821 J.W. Clay Boulevard.

Owner Andy Kalinoski says he started brewing gluten-free beer when his mother-in-law was diagnosed with Celiacs disease, and he’s noticed an increased interest in gluten free beer in the last few years.

“I used to tell people ‘I do not know what I would do if I had to quit drinking beer because [of a] gluten intolerance,'” he said. “But now I do not worry about it.”

The phrase ‘armored cow’ comes from WWII in reference to canned milk soldiers received. Kalinoski says as a veteran himself, the name is a nod to those who served and are serving.

The plan is to have a mix of both gluten-free and traditional beer available in the taproom. In order for a beer to be ‘gluten-free,’ the beer must be made with gluten-free grains like corn, buckwheat, quinoa, millet and so on.
