This Octopus At Sea Life Has a Passion for Painting

Fiona the Octopus has many talents, including painting, puzzles and playing with her favorite toy - Mr. Potato-head.

When you think of an octopus, certain things may come to mind: eight legs, terrifying Kraken tall tales or painting. Yes, we said painting. Sea Life Concord is home to a painting octopus named Fiona.

Fiona is a giant octopus with many talents including puzzles, playing with her favorite toy Mr. Potato-head and painting.

While they don’t give her a paintbrush, the process is still pretty fascinating. Her caretaker Kristin will put fingerpaint on a canvas and then securely tape it down with plastic wrap over the paint. Then, Kristin will take whatever food they’re feeding Fiona that day and rub it on the plastic wrap so she’s incentivized to check it out.

In the end, you’ve got a unique painting with imprints of her suction cups!

Go visit Fiona yourself and learn more about the cool animals at the aquarium. Sea Life is located at 8111 Concord Mills Boulevard, Concord, NC 28027.
