A South End Staple: Price’s Chicken Coop

When you take a step into Price’s Chicken Coop, it’s like walking straight into history. The building and its layout has remained mostly unchanged since it opened in the 1960s. The recipes are the same. The menu that hangs over the counter has only changed in prices. And the business still only deals in cash – though there is an ATM by the door for those who deal only in cards.

For cousins/co-owners Andrew and Steven Price, they say it’s worked for more than 50 years, so why change now? That’s in spite of exponential growth around the business in the past few years, as the South End has brought in many new buildings and businesses.

Both say they have no plans to change any time soon, so don’t worry. Charlotte’s favorite fried chicken joint isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

Price’s is open Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
