Due to forecasted severe weather, the 2019 NC Gravity Games have been postponed by two weeks.

The annual race and science expo was scheduled to take place this Saturday, April 13th.

The new date for the event is Saturday, April 27th at 9 a.m. The race will still take place in downtown Lenior.

The NC Gravity Games are returning to Lenoir, NC on Saturday, April 13, 2019 and Queen City Weekend is a media partner.  The Gravity Games are an engineering challenge and STEM celebration where teams from across the state design, build, test, and race gravity-powered cars.

Queen City Weekend will be on-site to capture the event for a video feature that will appear on Queen City Weekend as well as WBTV.

It’s not too late to participate.  For anyone who’d like to engage in this hands-on project that teaches engineering skills, visit 2019 North Carolina Gravity Games.  Registration and admission are both free.

School-age teams can choose to build a car from race-approved kits, or design and build their car from scratch.  Advanced teams can take on this year’s engineering challenge called “Transformation,” where they’ll design and construct a vehicle that starts the race on three or four wheels but transforms during the race to cross the finish line on two.

In addition, the Gravity Games feature hands-on STEM exhibits like solar-powered cars as part of the “Science Street Pavilion.” This year, five community college teams will launch high altitude balloons from downtown Lenoir as part of NC Space Grant’s High Altitude Balloon Launch Competition.

Bring an appetite.  Food stands will keep racers and revelers fueled up for all the fun!
